The Purpose Driven Life by Rick Warren is an aid to gain enlightenment to the age old question of “WHAT ON EARTH AM I HERE FOR?” The ultimate goal of reading this book is to know God's purpose for your life and to understand the big picture-how all the pieces of your life fit together. Having this perspective is designed to reduce your stress, simplify your decisions, increase your satisfaction, and, most important, prepare you for eternity.
"Faith, not feelings, pleases God." I can trust him in spite of how it looks or how I feel.
"Pour out your heart to God." I've come to believe that our relationship with God as our father depends on our honesty with him about how we're feeling. We need to have real conversations where we lay it all out - whatever it is.
"God can handle your doubt, anger, fear, grief, confusion, and questions." Let him have it - he can handle our crazy. I believe he wants us to talk to him, to open up a dialogue so that he can respond.
"Regardless of circumstances and how you feel, hang on to God's unchanging character. Remind yourself what you know to be eternally true about God: He is good, he loves me, he is with me, he knows what I'm going through, he cares, and he has a good plan for my life." I hang my hat on Jeremiah 29:11. When God is not "in full effect" - I say to myself, I know he has good plans for my life.
"Trust God to keep his promises." I can trust him only so much as I know his promises revealed in his word.
"So don't be troubled by trouble. Circumstances cannot change the character of God. God's grace is still in full force; he is still for you, even when you don't feel it."
Job said "God may kill me, but still I will trust him.” Why? Because he knew the same God that could put him in the ground was also able to raise him. I am reminded that even though I may lose everything,God is able to restore it.
